Online travel aggregator ixigo reported a consolidated net profit of ₹63.4 crore for the September quarter of fiscal 2027, marking a sharp turnaround from a ₹3.5 crore loss in the prior year’s same quarter, driven by operational gains and an exceptional stake sale in electric bus firm Freshbus.
- ixigo swings to ₹63.4 Cr net profit in Q2 after a loss last year
- Revenue grows 12.9% year-on-year to ₹321 Cr in Q2 FY27
- Exceptional gain from Freshbus stake sale boosts earnings
What happened
ixigo posted a consolidated net profit of ₹63.4 crore in the September quarter of FY27, reversing a net loss of ₹3.5 crore recorded during the same period last year. The profit surge was driven primarily by an exceptional gain of ₹40.7 crore associated with ixigo’s partial exit from its investment in electric bus operator Freshbus. The company sold Freshbus shares worth ₹36.6 crore in August, reducing its stake from 25.66% to 8.27%, resulting in Freshbus no longer being accounted as an associate.
Operating revenue for the quarter increased 12.9% year-on-year to ₹321 crore, up from ₹284.2 crore in Q2 FY26. However, sequentially revenue declined by 10% from ₹356.8 crore in Q1 FY27. Excluding exceptional items and tax, ixigo recorded an operating profit of ₹31 crore, compared to a loss of ₹4 crore in the prior-year quarter, although this was below the ₹44.2 crore reported in the previous quarter. Other income contributed an additional ₹22.1 crore, bringing total income for the quarter to ₹343 crore.
Why it matters
ixigo’s return to profitability after a loss last year signals improving operational efficiency and stronger market momentum for the online travel aggregator, an important milestone as competition intensifies in India’s digital travel sector. The 13% year-on-year revenue growth demonstrates sustained demand and resilience against the backdrop of macroeconomic fluctuations impacting consumer discretionary spending.
The exceptional gain from the strategic reduction of its stake in Freshbus indicates ixigo’s focus on optimizing its investment portfolio and capital allocation to enhance shareholder value. This move also shifts ixigo’s exposure away from the electric mobility space slightly, allowing it to concentrate more on its core travel aggregation business amid evolving sector dynamics.
What to watch next
Market participants will be closely monitoring ixigo’s revenue trends in coming quarters to assess whether the sequential dip in Q2 is temporary or indicative of broader demand softness. Investors will also watch for updates on ixigo’s strategic initiatives in travel tech innovation and potential partnerships that could drive continued growth and margin improvement.
Further developments regarding ixigo’s holdings in non-core entities like Freshbus will be important, as additional stake sales or reinvestments could materially impact future earnings and capital structure. The company’s ability to sustain profitability and grow top line amid evolving travel market conditions will remain a key focus area.
