- Raised ₹200 Cr co-led by National Quantum Mission and Speciale Invest.
- Plans to expand R&D, sales, and deploy next-generation quantum-safe security products.
- Preparing for India’s quantum transition target year 2029 with international market expansions.
What happened
QNu Labs, an Indian quantum cybersecurity startup based in Bengaluru, has secured ₹200 crore (approximately $21 million) in its Series A1 funding round. The round was co-led by the state-backed National Quantum Mission and Speciale Invest, with contributions from Sony Innovation Fund, Gaja Capital, and Artha Ventures among others. This round raises QNu Labs’ total capital raised to ₹375 crore, following an earlier Series A raise of ₹60 crore.
The capital injection will be used to accelerate multiple aspects of the business including research and development, expanding sales efforts, enhancing go-to-market strategies, and forging strategic partnerships. Additionally, QNu Labs will invest in operational infrastructure such as IT and automation to transition effectively from technology development towards a commercially scalable business model.
Why it matters
Quantum computing presents both significant opportunities and threats for cybersecurity globally. QNu Labs is building specialized quantum-safe solutions including quantum random number generation, quantum key distribution, and post-quantum cryptographic products aimed at protecting data and communications against rapidly evolving quantum-enabled threats.
With India targeting a quantum technology transition by 2029, this funding positions QNu Labs to lead domestic innovation and commercial deployment of quantum-safe cybersecurity, including products like its quantum-safe VPN and its new QShield 2.0 platform for cryptographic asset assessment. The company is also developing drone and satellite security solutions with defense sector applications, addressing strategic national security needs.
What to watch next
QNu Labs’ ability to meet matching requirements for a ₹150 crore government Research, Development, and Innovation fund project will be critical to its near-term R&D roadmap. The company has already signed a final term sheet for this initiative, which could catalyze advanced product development and scaling efforts.
Expansion beyond India into international markets such as Australia and the US, particularly with subscription-based quantum cybersecurity services for banking and healthcare sectors, will be important to watch. These moves indicate the company’s ambition to establish a global footprint in a technology segment expected to reach mainstream adoption in the next two to three years.
