- Net loss trimmed 22% in latest quarter despite 45% revenue drop
What happened
Ola Electric has finalized the allotment of 37.03 crore partly paid-up equity shares under its recent rights issue at an issue price of ₹27 per share. Shareholders paid ₹16.20 per share on application, totaling approximately ₹600 crore, with the remaining ₹10.80 to be paid on the first and final call. The rights issue committee approved the allotment after consulting with the NSE, following the subscription period that ran from October 22 to October 30.
This fundraise is expected to bring in nearly ₹1,000 crore for the electric vehicle maker once all payments are completed. Shareholders were entitled to subscribe to two shares for every 25 fully paid-up shares held as of October 13. The issue price offered a discount of over 5% compared to Ola Electric's prevailing share price at the time. This marks Ola Electric’s second significant capital raising within 2026, complementing a ₹780 crore qualified institutional placement completed in June.
Why it matters
The ₹1,000 crore targeted through this rights issue is earmarked for multiple strategic uses, primarily to strengthen Ola Electric’s balance sheet and support its acceleration in the electric mobility and energy storage sectors. Of the total proceeds, ₹350 crore will be dedicated to repaying or prepaying loans and related interest costs, a move designed to reduce financial leverage and interest burdens across Ola Electric and its subsidiaries.
In addition to debt reduction, the company plans to deploy ₹400 crore toward organic growth initiatives. These investments will cover a broad scope including manufacturing capacity expansion, enhanced research and development, network of sales outlets and dealerships, service infrastructure upgrades, and marketing efforts. The balance will support general corporate requirements, with an expected utilization of these funds across fiscal years 2027 and 2028.
What to watch next
Investors and market watchers will be keenly observing Ola Electric’s upcoming financial performance metrics, as the company aims to leverage this capital infusion to stabilize and grow in a challenging EV market environment. Its latest quarterly results showed a 22% reduction in net loss to ₹336 crore despite a 45% decline in operating revenue, signaling initial progress on cost control although sales momentum weakened.
Future updates will focus on how effectively Ola Electric utilizes the rights issue proceeds for both deleveraging its balance sheet and expanding its market footprint. Key indicators will include progress on reducing debt, scaling up production capabilities, and generating top-line growth from its electric mobility products and energy storage solutions. Execution on these fronts will be critical to the company’s medium-term valuation and competitive positioning in India's fast-evolving EV sector.
