Ribbit Capital, a key early backer of Indian fintech Groww, has sold over 11 crore shares valued at approximately ₹2,217 crore in two bulk transactions, marking another significant share sale following previous offloads by Ribbit and other investors.
- Ribbit sold 11.31 crore shares worth ₹2,217 crore at near-market prices
- The sale represents roughly 2% of Groww’s total equity
- Groww reported a 94% net profit increase and 66% revenue rise in Q1 FY27
What happened
Ribbit Capital disposed of a combined 11.31 crore shares in Groww through two bulk deals, with approximately 6.3 crore shares sold by Ribbit Capital V and nearly 5 crore shares by Ribbit Cayman GW Holdings V. Both transactions occurred at around ₹196 per share, a price very close to the closing market price.
This share sale, valued at roughly ₹2,217 crore, accounts for about 2% of Groww’s total shares outstanding. Ribbit Capital previously held about 10.1% stake in Groww, acquired through these investment vehicles as of June 2026.
Why it matters
Ribbit Capital has been a prominent early investor in Groww, backing the company since its Series B funding round in 2019. The recent sale continues a pattern of Ribbit reducing its stake, including a major open market offload of 14.2 crore shares worth over ₹2,500 crore earlier in 2026 following the IPO lock-in expiry.
This trend of bulk sales also involves other institutional investors. Y Combinator sold over 7 crore shares for ₹1,435 crore recently, and Goldman Sachs acquired over 1 crore shares from another major investor. Although these transactions can temporarily affect share price, Groww remains financially strong with significant profit and revenue growth.
What to watch next
Market participants will track how these continued equity offloads by early investors impact Groww’s stock price and investor sentiment over the coming quarters. The company’s ability to sustain strong operational performance, as evidenced by a 94% jump in net profit to ₹735 crore and a 66% revenue increase in Q1 FY27, will be critical.
Additionally, scrutiny will mount around future share sale intentions among promoter group members and institutional investors amid increasing market activity. Observers should also watch for new strategic developments or fundraising that could influence ownership structure and capital flow.
